A morning prayer

Lord Jesus Christ I pray for my life and service today. Bless me today with everything that I need to accomplish the mission to which you have called me. Reveal your presence and guide me by the voice of your Holy Spirit.

Lord, fill me with your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Give me opportunities to bless others with these “Fruits of the Spirit” in the way that I think of them, speak to them and treat them.

Send your Holy Spirit to fill me for this day. Open doors of opportunity for me to be a witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Grant me power when I pray. Give me discernment in all the situations in which I find myself.

Keep me safe. Keep me free of sickness. Give me physical strength, mental alertness and emotional peace.

Lord, send your angels to serve in every way I need. Restrain the adversary. Keep my mind and heart clear in the face of temptation. Reorder my disordered desires so that they become expressions of your life being formed in me.

Lord, give me opportunities to serve others. Let my acts of service be done with love for Jesus who served me and with love for the people in my life. May every act of service and kindness and every word I speak show the love and life of Jesus Christ and his kingdom.

Bind me together in unity with my brothers and sisters in Christ and give me a deep experience of the fellowship of the Holy Spirit with them. Lord, change our hearts and lives to make us more like Jesus. Draw us more deeply into dependence on you and may the things that we learn and experience of life in your kingdom remain in us.

I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord, Amen.

Jesus, forgive my sins.

Forgive the sins that I can remember and also the sins that I have forgotten.

Forgive the wrong actions I have committed and the right actions I have omitted.

Forgive the times I have been weak in the face of temptation and those when I have been stubborn in the face of correction.

Forgive the times I have been proud of my own achievements and those when I have failed to boast of Your works.

Forgive the harsh judgments I have made of others and the leniency I have shown to myself.

Forgive the lies I have told to others and the truths that I have avoided.

Forgive me of the pain I have caused others and the indulgence I have shown to myself.

Jesus, have pity on me, and make me whole.  Amen.

Lord I agree with your assessment of my life. I ask you to reveal to me those things in my life which need forgiveness, pardon, cleansing, redemption or restitution. Give me a spirit of a deep and true repentance. Please receive my confession.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 12 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. 13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.

Hebrews 13:7, 17   Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

Pray the scriptures for your pastor by putting his name into the verses Make the verse a specific request.

Pray that Pastor Holl will:

1. Be a man after God’s own heart.

Acts 13:22 But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’

Psalms 63:1-5 O God, you are my God;
    I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;    my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
    where there is no water.

2 I have seen you in your sanctuary
    and gazed upon your power and glory.
3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
    how I praise you!
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
    lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
5 You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
    I will praise you with songs of joy.

2. Allow God to direct his steps.

Psalm 37:23-24  The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
    He delights in every detail of their lives.
24 Though they stumble, they will never fall,
    for the Lord holds them by the hand.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
    and he will show you which path to take.

3. Be a Spirit-filled man of faith and love.

Galatians 5:22-25 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

4. Have health, strength and endurance.

James 1:2-4   Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

5. Have God’s wisdom as he leads the church and ministers to people.

James 1:5-6 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

James 3:17-18   But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. 18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

6. Have a fruitful ministry.

John 15:16  You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.

7. Know the Heavenly Father’s love and approval.

Romans 8:15-17 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

8. Effectively equip Christians in following Christ, in
serving in ministry in the church and in the community.

2 Timothy 2:1-2  Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

Ephesians 4:11-12  Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

9. Have the blessing of God upon his family.

Psalms 127 1 Unless the Lord builds a house,
    the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
    guarding it with sentries will do no good.
2 It is useless for you to work so hard
    from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat;
    for God gives rest to his loved ones.

3 Children are a gift from the Lord;
    they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man
    are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!
    He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

Psalms 128:1-4 1 How joyful are those who fear the Lord
    all who follow his ways!
2 You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
    How joyful and prosperous you will be!
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine,
    flourishing within your home.
Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees
    as they sit around your table.
4 That is the Lord’s blessing
    for those who fear him.
